All about body scrubs

All about Body Scrubs

Exfoliating has always been an important step in all skin care treatments - be it a simple facial or a complete spa experience. Exfoliating helps to rejuvenate the skin by exposing the smoother and supple layer of skin after removal of the dead skin layer. While there exists a range if facial scrubs which are suited to exfoliate the facial skin, there is a wide variety of body scrubs for exfoliating the dead skin of the body.

What is a Body Scrub

It is a suspension of coarse granules  in a semi-liquid medium or gel (often resembling the consistency of body butter or a moisturizing lotion).

Benefits of Using a Body Scrub

A body scrub will actually help to remove dead skin from your body, making you feel fresh and rejuvenated. A body scrub is the best way to also remove a skin tan. If your skin had become rough and has darkened due to pollution or exposure to dust, you can use a scrub to remove the rough skin layer leaving you with a soft and supple skin.

Applications of a Body Scrub

A body scrub is generally used in a complete spa treatment, which involves the use of an exfoliating scrub and is followed by a hydrating body wrap to nourish the skin and keep it fresh and supple. In case you are not going for the beauty treatment at a spa, you can use a scrub while having your bath and exfoliate your skin.

How Often Can I Use a Body Scrub?

Do not use the scrub often because frequent scrubbing can damage the young skin layer once the dead skin is off the body surface. You can use a scrub once in a week or two. Also remember to use a very gentle scrub in case you have a dry skin. Also be very careful during winters when too much of scrubbing can damage already dry skin.

Easy Homemade Body Scrubs

Here are some easy ideas to create refreshing and nourishing body scrubs at home. Most of these scrubs contain ingredients that are easily available in your kitchen, be it honey, yogurt or sea salt.

  •  Basic Sea Salt Scrub: Combine one cup of basic sea salt to half a cup of almond oil. Make sure that the sea salt is finely ground, since coarse grains can cause harm to the skin. Gently rub the body scrub over the hands and the legs and massage gently in circular motion to exfoliate the dead skin. Take a dip in the tub for a while and rinse with a hydrating shower gel.
  • Exotic Coffee Scrub: Take 1 cup of finely ground coffee and add half a cup of fresh yogurt to it. Gently rub the paste onto your body and massage in circular motion. This body scrub will not require a moisturizing treatment afterwards since the yogurt makes the skin soft and supple. After the exfoliation have a warm water shower or a dip in the tub to discover the goodness of this scrub.
